Our web design and maintenance service has grown out of a long apprenticeship in classical typography and printing allied to many years' experience of working with information technology. Hence, our approach to web design is subtly different from that of many web designers, who are primarily graphic artists. For us, content is of supreme importance and must be given an appropriate form. In practice, that tends to mean less is more. Digitalnun is ruthless with the digital blue pencil!

We try not to be gimmicky or sell features which are of no real use to the client. Although our work has its light-hearted side, you can be assured of a thoroughly professional attitude on our part, together with complete confidentiality.

Veilpress: for simple, stylish print by the Benedictines of Holy Trinity Monastery

The Veil Press, usually known as Veilpress, was the first of the works we set up when we came to East Hendred. Several years spent running the press at Stanbrook proved a good introduction to all the processes involved in printing and publishing, from composition to book-binding. Having first-hand experience of the major techniques, from letterpress to digital, coupled with a keen interest in fine printing and design, have helped establish our reputation for reliability and quality.

Although no longer able to produce elegant Orders of Service on handmade papers as in former years, we do continue to undertake private commissions (including Orders of Service) using the finest materials now available, as well as more commercial projects. In the last few years we have worked on such diverse assignments as the Portsmouth Diocesan Year Book, book design and typesetting for the Sacred Literature Trust, Library Appeal literature for Douai Abbey, specialized printings of poetry and prayer, commercial brochures and flyers, electronic publications and the like. We have also been entrusted with the editing of the Catholic Directory of England and Wales and work for the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales.

In 2008 in association with the English College, Valladollid, we begin a particularly interesting project in three languages which will involve integrated print/web publication of some important historical texts. In the meantime, Digitalnun continues to learn something new every day.

Veilcraft: for high standards in design and craftsmanship

Martin Wenham is generally recognized as the leading British designer and carver of lettering in wood (some would say, the leading designer and carver of lettering in wood anywhere). He works in a variety of media, both to commission and exploring the potential of lettering and language as an art form. As a long-standing friend of the community, he has been generous in gifts to beautify the monastery's oratory.

Martin has designed and carved a "trinity of platters" expressly for Holy Trinity Monastery. Only one is available for sale:


The platter is approximately 30cm in diameter and turned in English ash by Anthony Walker of Whitwick, Leicestershire. The quotation "the kindly fruits of the earth" is taken from the Book of Common Prayer. All the work of turning, designing and carving has been done entirely by hand and once this platter is sold, the design will not be used again.

The platter, which is branded with Martin's oak-leaf mark and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, is finished with olive oil and is suitable for serving bread and other dry foods.

The cost of this platter is £350, which includes delivery within the U.K. For overseas delivery details, please apply to the monastery.
